Original 3rd Doctor items on eBay -
May 2015

eBay‘s been a bit quiet lately for vintage items from Jon Pertwee’s era - but then this turns up!

The Silurians (1970) Silurian Neck
UNSOLD for £595

An original costume piece used in the production of the long running BBC science fiction television series Doctor Who.

This neck valance formed part of the costume worn by the reptilian like Silurians in the 1970 serial The Silurians starring Jon Pertwee as The Doctor.

Constructed from a heavy duty canvas material which has been coated with latex and dressed with wood chip giving a textured finish. In a condition fitting of its 45 year age it has hardened into shape with only the lower front section remaining flexible, lacking some of wood chip finish and the tail piece that the ran down the front of the bodysuit it remains an incredibly rare costume element from the original appearance of these recurring monsters.

The valance measures approximately 16" across the shoulders and represents a rare example of an original artefact from the Jon Pertwee era of this classic science fiction television series.

Rare Dalek playsuit for auction

This week sees the regular December Entertainment And Memorabilia Auction at Bonhams.
There’s a handful of Doctor Who items, but the majority are for uninspiring Torchwood and Sarah Jane costumes.

But what has caught my eye is a lot in another auction taking place by Aston’s Auctioneeres in Dudley, West Midlands!

This Thursday and Friday (11th and 12th December 2014) sees a vast sale of Toys and Model Railways.

The most interesting lot is for an original Berwick Dalek Playsuit from 1965.
Originally sold for 66s 6d, they sell for in excess of £300 to £400, so the £150 to £220 estimate is quite conservative, given that it is complete and comes with the original box.

Prop Store Auction - 16th October 2014

Today there was an auction by Prop Store London, selling a whole Aladdin’s cave of amazing film and tv props and costumes.

Hidden amongst them was a single Doctor Who item.

It’s not strictly from Doctor Who - but it was used on there series.

The helmet was sculpted for Moon Zero Two, the only space-set science fiction film produced by Hammer.

Prop Store London - Film & TV Artefacts - 16th October 2014

Lot 72 The Ambassadors of Death Space Helmet

A space helmet used in the Jon Pertwee Doctor Who adventure The Ambassadors of Death. This helmet and others like it were worn by the astronauts on board Mars Probe 7 who were taken by an alien race and replaced by alien duplicates.

Originally made for the sci-fi film Moon Zero Two (1969), the helmets were later used in many subsequent productions, most notably Doctor Who. The helmet is made of fibreglass and features a clear plastic visor and a foam lining. It is finished in an off-white paint scheme and the neck ring has a foil appliqué to give the appearance of metal.

Well-used, the helmet retains much of its original finish with only minor scuffs and cracks to the paint finish and visor. The piece remains in good condition. Dimensions: 32 cm x 28 cm x 31 cm (12½” x 11” x 12¼”)

Estimate £1,000-1,500
Sold for £1,700

Alternative 3rd Doctor costume t-shirt

Back in 2011 Forbidden Planet started releasing a range of t-shirt based on The Doctor’s costumes.

They soon released all twelve Doctors, and have kept the idea alive by doing a few of the peripheral characters as well.

Now they are going back over a few of The Doctors, creating some of the alternative costume variations seen down the years.

You can now get the Third Doctor - but as seen in the tenth anniversary special, The Three Doctors, with the blue lined Inverness cape.

Despite featuring in the iconic group photocall, this variant of the cape was only used briefly in a couple of scenes in the story.

That said, I do think it is a better choice than the brown Inverness cape of the original t-shirt.

But that’s not all!

If you so desire you can dress as The Brigadier too!

Doctor Who And The Silurians
framed head piece
WITHDRAWN

This is an amazing piece - with the anniversary of doctor who, I thought I would offer this absolutely last amazing opportunity from my own personal collection.

This is a fantastic original prop with fantastic provenance. There is only one original 1970 Silurian costume left in existence. When it was being restored, a few small original pieces had to be discarded. This item is from the head and so rare it is unthinkable - I did not intend to sell this, as it is my own I was going to keep, but pressures have forced my hand!

I have only sold two other smaller pieces two years ago and both went for £150.

This comes displayed in a display frame and will be supplied with certifcate of provenence confirming its authenticity.

AMAZING 3rd Doctor item on eBay

A couple of months ago there was an amazing original Auton Mask on eBay.

Things like that don’t come up very often, so it’s amazing now to see this . . .

Doctor Who And The Silurians
Silurian mask
SOLD FOR £310

Vintage Doctor WHO original tv PROP'!

' SILURIAN ' Full face Mask in LATEX from the 1970s -this is just so cool and its in great condition

this one has no splits or tears and the colours are still really good and the eyes are bright ...

On 24-Nov-13 at 23:07:16 GMT, seller added the following information:
Please read .............we are getting lots and lots of questions about this -so rather than try and answer them all we have added this-

and we will be as honest as we can about it....

This mask came to us from a very avid collector of Doctor Who . His collection consisted of very rare items many of them were signed by the actors themselves and several photos amongst the collection showed him with them. This mask was from the same collection and we have hung onto it until now because it is just so impressive ......it was nice to have on display for a while ............

many questions have asked about provenance...

No- it does not have a BBC stamp on the back and there is no letter of provenance with it

All we can say is .....we believe it to be a prop , it is extremely well made, far too good to be a toy .

As the photos show , the detail is fantastic......we took more photos than usual to let you see it and make up your own minds ........

The size is for an adult, and measures top to bottom- 50cms in length and 40 cms width and it weighs 800 grms.

so we hope this helps , as we say , in our honest opinion - knowing its source etc -we believe it to be a tv prop ...................but at the end of the day - it is sold as seen and as described.

we are not trying to deceive anyone in any way -so please -only bid -if you are happy with what you see in the photos and our description

Doctor Who Celebration -
costume exhibition

This weekend’s Doctor Who Celebration has been a feast for the eyes for fans.

As well as catering for those who have come to Who through the relaunch series, there has been a good nod to the history of the show with a wide variety of guests and an extensive exhibition of costumes culled from Cardiff’s Doctor Who Experience.

They had a near complete set of Doctor’s costumes on show (missing was the Eighth and War Doctors) arranged in a circle around Bessie.

The Third Doctor costume on show was not the same as in The Experience. This was the purple lined Inverness cape (rather than red) and it was the burgundy smoking jacket (rather than midnight blue.

Other items from the Third Doctor era included the original Bessie, which has recently been on display in The Experience foyer.

There was also a Dalek, in a colour scheme which I think debuted in Planet Of The Daleks.

The one thing I saw which was a stand-out Third Doctor item for me was amongst the Time Lord robes display. It included a version seen in The Three Doctors back in 1973.
